Hochatown dining: where to eat, what to order, and how far it is from the cabin.

The Hochatown restaurant scene is small — a dozen spots on and around US-259 — and punches well above what a town this size should be able to sustain. Every one of the places below is a 7–12 minute drive from both of our cabins.

Below: the honest local rundown, what to actually order at each spot, and how to think about waits. If it isn't on this list, it either doesn't exist yet or we don't think it's worth the drive.

Grateful Head Pizza

The Hochatown institution. Big timbered deck, live music most weekends, and the pie every guest asks about before they even get to the cabin.

OrderThe Head Pie (pepperoni, sausage, jalapeño, cream cheese) or the Big Cheesy for the group. Add a Caesar and a pitcher.

TimingShow up before 5:30pm Fri–Sun or plan on a 60–90 minute wait. No reservations. Put your name in and walk to the shops next door.

Mountain Fork Brewery

Timbered A-frame with 10+ rotating house taps and a covered patio you can lose two hours on. Dog- and kid-friendly.

OrderThe Margherita or Fungi pizza, a flight of the seasonal beers, and the pretzel with beer cheese. Non-drinkers: they pour a great root beer.

TimingLate lunch (2–4pm) is the smart window. Dinner waits are 30–60 min on weekends but the patio is fine to wait on.

Abendigo's Grill & Patio

Inside Beavers Bend State Park — steaks, seafood, a full bar, and a fireplace patio overlooking the pines. The nicest reservation in the area.

OrderThe ribeye or the trout — both sourced with the park in mind. Start with the smoked wings; end with the bread pudding.

TimingReservations open on OpenTable ~30 days out and book fast for weekends. Book the day you know your trip dates.

Only a few. Abendigo's and The Redland Chophouse take reservations (OpenTable) — book them the day you finalize your trip. Grateful Head, Mountain Fork Brewery, and most casual spots are walk-in only; plan around waits by arriving before 5:30pm on weekends.
How far are the restaurants from your cabins?
Everything on this list is within 7–12 minutes of both Sound of Sunshine and As Good As It Gets. The Hochatown restaurant strip is one road, and both cabins sit off the same US-259 corridor. Nothing is more than a short drive.
Are Hochatown restaurants dog friendly?
Mountain Fork Brewery, Grateful Head Pizza (deck), Girls Gone Wine, and Abendigo's patio all welcome dogs. Bring a leash and a bowl. Indoor dining is usually not dog-friendly.
What should we order at Grateful Head?
The Head Pie is the signature — pepperoni, sausage, jalapeño, and cream cheese on wood-fired crust. For a group, add the Big Cheesy and a Caesar. Skip the wait by putting your name in at 5pm and walking next door.

For anything sit-down (Abendigo's, Redland, Adam & Eve's for a large group), yes — book 3–4 weeks ahead for Memorial Day, July 4th, foliage weekends in October, and Thanksgiving. Casual spots handle waits by rotating names quickly.
Can we get groceries delivered to the cabin?
There's no Instacart in Hochatown. Stop at Walmart in Broken Bow on the drive up (10–15 minutes south of both cabins) or use Rolling Fork Takery for chef-prepped cabin meals ordered ahead.
