Stevens Gap is the swimmer's pick — sandy, shallow entry, quieter than Beavers Bend on summer weekends.

Built in 1969, the lake has 180 miles of shoreline carved through the Ouachita National Forest. Three public marinas: Beavers Bend, Stevens Gap, and Carson Creek.

Planning your trip

Broken Bow Lake is one stop on a Broken Bow weekend. Most guests drive in Friday afternoon, spend Saturday on the water or in Hochatown, and head home Sunday. Two nights is the minimum on most dates, three feels a lot better. Cell service is patchy once you leave the main road, so download your map before you arrive, and bring groceries — the nearest full store is in Broken Bow proper, about 15 minutes south of the cabin strip.
