Hochatown has, per capita, one of the densest craft-drink scenes anywhere in Oklahoma. A working bourbon distillery, a well-established brewery, a fruit-wine tasting room, a second brewery on the park side, and a proper saloon — all inside a two-mile stretch of US-259A.

We live and host here full-time. This is the same brief we give our own arriving groups when they ask what a real tasting day in Hochatown looks like: where to start, what to skip, how to sequence the palate, and how to keep everyone safe getting home.

  • Hochatown Distilling Co.

    The flagship — a full craft distillery producing bourbon, rye, moonshine, and rum on-site. Free tastings at the bar, guided tours on the hour, and a covered patio that's the unofficial living room of Hochatown. About 6 minutes from Sound of Sunshine and 8 from As Good As It Gets.

  • Mountain Fork Brewery

    Not a distillery but always paired with one — southeast Oklahoma's oldest craft brewery. A dozen taps rotating year-round, wood-fired pizza out of the kitchen, and live music on weekend nights. Two doors down from Hochatown Distilling.

  • Girls Gone Wine

    Sweet, fruit-forward Oklahoma wines in a laid-back tasting room. Not for the dry-red crowd, perfect for a bachelorette group. Flights come with cheese and chocolate. About 7 minutes from both cabins.

  • Beavers Bend Brewery

    The park-side counterpart to Mountain Fork — smaller, quieter, and closer to the state-park entrance. Rotating small-batch pours and a shaded deck. Good midday stop between a morning at the lake and dinner in Hochatown.

  • Hochatown Saloon

    Full cocktail bar with a heavy pour and live country most weekends. The late-night stop when the distillery and brewery close. Two-step floor, string lights, and the closest thing Hochatown has to a proper honky-tonk.

A sample tasting day

Late breakfast at the cabin. Leave by 10:45am. Get the 11am tour at Hochatown Distilling Co. — clearest palate of the day. Walk two doors down for lunch and a flight at Mountain Fork Brewery around 1pm. Back in the car at 2:30, ten minutes to Girls Gone Wine for a sweet-wine flight and cheese board. Home by 4 for a nap and a hot tub reset. Dinner in Hochatown, then close it out at Hochatown Saloon after 9. Whole loop: one long, well-paced day.

How to do this safely

Rideshare in Hochatown is thin. Uber and Lyft do operate here, but wait times can run 20–45 minutes and surge is real on weekend nights. Realistic options:

  • Rotate a designated driver — the easiest option with a group cabin. Two drivers split the day.
  • Hire a local shuttle — a few private operators run weekend distillery loops. Book a week ahead. Ask us at check-in and we'll send you the current numbers we trust.
  • Stay walkable to the cluster — a couple of Hochatown cabins are within a real walk of the main strip. Ours are a short drive, not a walk.

Where are the Hochatown distilleries?
The core cluster sits along US-259A in Hochatown, immediately north of Beavers Bend State Park — Hochatown Distilling Co., Mountain Fork Brewery, and Hochatown Saloon are within a two-minute walk of each other. Girls Gone Wine and Beavers Bend Brewery are a short drive south toward the park entrance. All five are within 10 minutes of both of our cabins on paved roads.
Is Hochatown Distilling Co. worth visiting?
Yes — it's the anchor stop of any Hochatown drinks tour. They distill bourbon, rye, moonshine, and rum on-site, and the guided tour walks you through the mash tuns and stills before free tastings at the bar. Bottles are available to take home. Expect 45–60 minutes with the tour or 20 minutes for a walk-in tasting.
Do you need reservations for the distilleries?
Walk-ins are the norm. Tours at Hochatown Distilling run about every hour on weekends and fill up fast in summer and fall — arrive by 11am on a Saturday or expect to wait for the next slot. Weekday afternoons rarely need a reservation anywhere in Hochatown.
How much does a Hochatown distillery tasting cost?
Tastings at Hochatown Distilling are typically free at the bar; the guided distillery tour runs around $10–15 per person and includes samples. Girls Gone Wine flights are $10–15. Brewery flights at Mountain Fork and Beavers Bend Brewery run $10–12 for four pours.
Can you do a distillery tour without a designated driver?
Uber and Lyft coverage in Hochatown is thin — plan a designated driver, or stay within walking distance of the cluster. A group cabin makes this easy: split the driving between two people over the day, or hire a local shuttle service (a few operate weekends, ask your host). What's the best order to visit the Hochatown distilleries?
The classic loop: start at Hochatown Distilling for the tour and tasting (needs the clearest palate), walk two doors down for lunch and a flight at Mountain Fork Brewery, drive to Girls Gone Wine for the softer palate, then close out at Hochatown Saloon after dinner. Total time: about 5 hours with a real meal in the middle.
Are the distilleries kid-friendly?
Mountain Fork Brewery and Beavers Bend Brewery both allow kids on their food-service patios; kid meals and non-alcoholic drinks are on the menu. Hochatown Distilling and Hochatown Saloon are 21+ inside. If you're traveling with a big multi-generation group, split the day: adults do the tasting tour while a sitter or the other adults take the kids to the state park.
When are the Hochatown distilleries open?
Most run seven days a week from late morning through the evening, with extended hours Thursday–Saturday. Hochatown Distilling typically opens at 11am; the brewery kitchen at Mountain Fork usually opens by noon. Hours shift by season — always check the specific spot's site the day before, especially in winter when a few close early.
Where should we stay to visit the distilleries?
Hochatown is the answer — every cabin here is 10 minutes or less from the whole cluster. Both of our cabins sit on paved roads in the middle of Hochatown, making designated-driver rotations short. Sound of Sunshine sleeps 18 and works for reunion groups. As Good As It Gets sleeps 20 with a private pool, hot tub, and outdoor kitchen — the celebration cabin.
How long does a Hochatown Distilling Co. tour and tasting take?
Plan on 45–60 minutes for the full guided tour with tastings, or about 20 minutes for a walk-in tasting at the bar without the tour. If you want to browse bottles and talk to the staff about what to take home, add another 15 minutes. Groups of 6+ should budget closer to 75 minutes so everyone gets time at the bar.
Can we book a private distillery tour or group tasting?
Yes. Hochatown Distilling Co. accommodates private group tours and tastings for bachelor/bachelorette parties, birthdays, and corporate groups — usually with 7–10 days' notice. Group minimums and pricing vary by season. Call the distillery directly to arrange it; walk-in tours cannot accommodate large private groups on weekend afternoons without a reservation.
What are Mountain Fork Brewery's hours and does the kitchen stay open late?
Mountain Fork typically opens at noon Thursday–Sunday and mid-afternoon on weekdays, with the taproom staying open until 9–10pm (later on weekends with live music). The wood-fired pizza kitchen usually closes about an hour before the taproom — order food by 8:30pm on weeknights and 9:30pm on weekends to be safe. Hours shift seasonally, so check their site the day of.
Do any of the Hochatown distilleries or breweries take reservations?
Most operate walk-in only for the taproom and tasting bar. Hochatown Distilling Co. takes reservations for private group tours (see above). Mountain Fork Brewery does not reserve tables — expect a 15–30 minute wait on Friday and Saturday nights in peak season. Show up before 6pm on a Saturday and you'll almost always walk right in.
Are Hochatown distilleries and breweries open on Sundays and Mondays?
Sundays yes — Hochatown Distilling, Mountain Fork Brewery, and both wineries/breweries typically run Sunday hours (usually noon–6pm). Mondays are the quietest day: Mountain Fork Brewery and Girls Gone Wine are often closed Mondays, and Hochatown Distilling may run reduced hours. If your trip includes a Monday, plan the tasting day for Sunday or push it to Tuesday.
Can we buy bottles to take back to the cabin or ship home?
Yes to take-home — Hochatown Distilling sells bottles of bourbon, rye, moonshine, and rum at the distillery, and Girls Gone Wine sells bottles and gift sets from the tasting room. Direct shipping is restricted by state and generally not offered; plan to drive bottles home or check them in a suitcase. Oklahoma retail bottle sales end at specific hours, so buy while you're on-site rather than counting on a late-night stop.
What holidays affect distillery and brewery hours in Hochatown?
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day almost every spot is closed. Christmas Eve, New Year's Eve, and New Year's Day usually run shortened hours (opening late, closing by 6pm). Fourth of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day are among the busiest days of the year — everything is open with extended hours, but expect waits and get to the distillery tour before 11am.
Is there a tasting flight or passport that covers multiple stops?
There is no single official Hochatown distillery passport at this time. Some seasons the local visitors bureau promotes a loop card with small discounts at participating stops — ask at check-in and we'll tell you if one is currently running. Otherwise each stop sells its own flight (typically 4 pours for $10–15) and you build your own tour.
