How to pick a Broken Bow cabin with a hot tub (and what to actually look for)

Not all Broken Bow hot tub cabins are equal — here's the checklist we'd use ourselves when picking one.
Half of Broken Bow listings say 'hot tub.' Half of those hot tubs are either broken, slow to heat, or sit in a spot you wouldn't actually want to use. Here's the checklist.
1. Is it covered? An uncovered hot tub is useless during a Broken Bow rainstorm — and storms are common from April through October. A covered deck means the hot tub works in any weather. Both our cabins have covered hot tubs.
2. Is the cover in good shape? A waterlogged, sagging cover means the previous guests used a hot tub that took 6 hours to heat. Look for a recent cover in the photos. Better hosts swap covers every 18 months.
3. Is it maintained between stays? This is the biggest gap in the market. Ask: 'is the hot tub balanced and tested for every turnover?' If the answer isn't an immediate yes, expect to arrive to a cold or cloudy tub. Our local team tests and balances both tubs at every turnover.

4. What size? A 5–6 person tub is plenty for a group of 4 adults. An 8-person tub sounds great but takes longer to heat and uses more chemicals. Look at the actual photo, not the listed capacity.
5. Is it private? A hot tub overlooking your neighbor's deck is not a hot tub experience. Look for a wooded view, a privacy fence, or an angled deck. Our cabins both face pines, not neighbors.
6. View from the tub. Trees > house wall > parking lot. Sunset orientation is a bonus.
7. Lighting. A hot tub with no exterior light or just one harsh floodlight is awkward at night. Look for string lights, sconces, or a real dimmer.
8. Is it on the same deck as the grill and fire pit? The best cabin layouts cluster hot tub + fire pit + grill so you can move between them barefoot. Walking down a flight of wet stairs to the grill is the wrong layout.
9. Year-round? Some hot tubs get drained in winter to save chemicals. Ours don't — December soaks under the stars are the best of the year.
10. Real photos. If the only hot tub photo is a stock shot or a tight crop of jets, the actual setup is probably underwhelming.
The filter we'd use: covered, balanced every turnover, private view, lit at night, paired with the fire pit. Anything less and you're paying for a hot tub you won't use after the first night.
Frequently asked
Questions, answered.
Do all Broken Bow cabins have hot tubs?
+
Most do, but not all. Always confirm the listing photo matches what's actually on the deck — and ask whether it's covered, heated year-round, and how recently it was serviced.
Are Broken Bow hot tubs open year-round?
+
At Broken Bow Escapes, yes — both cabins keep hot tubs operational every day of the year. Some smaller rentals drain theirs in winter.
How hot do Broken Bow cabin hot tubs get?
+
Our tubs hold 100–104°F. Guests can adjust within that range; we don't recommend higher.
