The best BBQ in Broken Bow: a smoked-meat field guide from cabin owners

The best BBQ in Broken Bow: a smoked-meat field guide from cabin owners

Brisket, ribs, pulled pork — where to actually eat BBQ in Broken Bow and Hochatown, ranked by people who eat it every week.

Broken Bow is in southeast Oklahoma, which means it sits at the geographic intersection of Texas brisket, Memphis ribs, and Carolina pulled pork. Locals eat all three. Here's where.

Rolling Fork Takery is the move for brisket. It's takeout-only — order at the counter, eat at the picnic tables along the Mountain Fork River. Brisket is rendered, peppery, with a real bark. Get there before noon on weekends or the peach cobbler is gone. Cash or card. Closed Mondays.

Naaman's BBQ of Hochatown is the sit-down option. Ribs and pulled pork are the play; the brisket is good but Rolling Fork has the edge. The mac and cheese is one of the best sides in the area — order two. Big patio, dog-friendly.

Truckin Good BBQ is the dark-horse pick — a hidden gem about 12 miles north of Hochatown on Highway 259. The pulled pork sandwich and the homemade jerky are the standouts, and the smoke ring earns the drive. Limited seating; takeout is faster.

For late-night smoked meat after a day on the lake, Hochatown Saloon runs a smoker behind the bar and turns out brisket sliders until 10 PM most weekends. Not a destination meal — a perfect 9:30 PM 'we forgot to eat' meal.

What to skip: any place selling 'BBQ nachos' as the headliner — it's a tourist tell. Skip the gas-station BBQ in town proper; it's not the same operation as the Hochatown spots.

Protein order, by spot: Rolling Fork → brisket. Naaman's BBQ of Hochatown → ribs. Truckin Good → pulled pork + jerky. Hochatown Saloon → sliders.

Timing: weekend lunch lines run 20–40 minutes at all of them from May through October. Order ahead by phone if the spot lets you, or eat at 11:15 AM or 2 PM to skip the crush.
