Broken Bow with dogs: the complete guide for traveling with pets

Pet-friendly trails, restaurants, swimming spots, and cabins in Broken Bow — from owners who host dogs every weekend.
Broken Bow is one of the most dog-friendly destinations in Oklahoma. Here's what works.
The trails. Beavers Bend State Park allows leashed dogs on every trail. Cedar Bluff and Skyline are the best for energetic dogs — bring water, the sandstone gets hot in summer. The David Boren Nature Trail is short and shaded for older dogs.
The lake. Dogs can swim freely at most of the public coves north of Stevens Gap and in the day-use areas near Beaver Bend Marina. The cove just east of Beaver Lodge ramp has shallow sand entry, which most dogs love. Skip the swimming beaches with lifeguards (peak summer) — dogs aren't allowed there.
The river. Mountain Fork below the dam is great for dog wading. Water is cold and clear; current is gentle except during dam releases. Tie a long leash to your chair.

Dog-friendly restaurants. Grateful Head Pizza has the best dog patio — they bring water bowls. Mountain Fork Brewery's outdoor section is dog-friendly. Naaman's BBQ of Hochatown welcomes dogs on the patio. Beavers Bend Brewery — yes on the patio.
Pet supplies. The Walmart in Broken Bow has the full selection. Hochatown Grocery carries basics. There's no real pet store in the area.
Vet emergencies. Closest is Idabel Veterinary Hospital, 30 minutes south (open weekdays). For after-hours emergencies, drive to Paris, TX or Texarkana.
What to pack: long leash for water, towel for muddy paws, your own dog bed (cabins are non-shedding policies), poop bags, paw balm if it's been hot or icy.
Our policy: Sound of Sunshine is pet-friendly (2 dogs max, $75/stay pet fee, must be crate-trained or with you at all times). As Good As It Gets is not pet-friendly due to allergies in the family that uses it personally. Book Sound of Sunshine if you're bringing dogs.
