Driving to Broken Bow from Dallas: route, time, and stops

Dallas to Broken Bow is the most common drive into Hochatown. Here's the playbook.

DISTANCE & TIME 205 miles. 3 hours 15 minutes with no traffic. Plan 3.5–4 hours with one stop and Friday traffic.

ROUTE The fast route: US-75 N from Dallas → US-82 E at Sherman → US-271 N near Paris, TX → cross into Oklahoma at Hugo → US-70 E to Broken Bow → US-259 N to Hochatown.

Most of the drive is two-lane Texas/Oklahoma backroads after Sherman. Beautiful, easy, low-traffic outside of holiday weekends.

TRAFFIC TIPS Friday: leave Dallas before 2 PM or after 7 PM to skip the worst of the metro traffic. Sunday return: avoid 3–6 PM crossing back through Sherman/McKinney. Holiday weekends: add an hour, no matter what time you leave.

GAS Fill up in Sherman, TX (cheapest along the route) or Paris, TX. The further east you go after Paris, the higher the price. Gas in Hochatown is 20–30 cents more than Sherman.

FOOD STOPS McKinney (45 min in) — early lunch if you left at 10 AM. Sherman (1 hr in) — last big chain options for a while. Paris, TX (2 hr in) — Texas Tamale Co. is the best stop. Real BBQ at Sweet Daddy's just south of town if you want to skip cabin dinner. Hugo, OK (2.5 hr in) — gas only. Broken Bow / Idabel (3 hr in) — Walmart for groceries if you're stocking the cabin.

SUPPLY STOP Most guests stop at Walmart Broken Bow (off US-70 in Broken Bow) for groceries before heading north to the cabin. It's the only big grocery on the route and has everything.

ALTERNATE FOR FAMILIES If the kids need a break, the Sherman/Denison area has a Buc-ee's just off US-75 — good restrooms, easy gas, snacks. Adds 5 min to the drive.

FROM FORT WORTH ADD 30–45 min depending on traffic. Take I-30 E to Greenville, then US-69 N to merge with the standard route at Sherman.

WHAT TO TELL FIRST-TIMERS The last 20 minutes after Broken Bow town are dark, winding, and beautiful. Drive slow, watch for deer, especially at dusk.
